Eagles’ Path to the NFC East Title Gets Clearer After Vikings Shock Dallas

Eagles' Magic Number Drops to 1 Thanks to Vikings' Win

The Philadelphia Eagles got a huge break even though they sat out Sunday night. That Vikings game in Dallas turned everything around for them in the NFC East. Its kind of crazy how a win like that, 34-26 on the road, drops the Eagles magic number down to just one. Now they are basically one step away from the title, whether its their own win or the Cowboys messing up again.

I think Eagles fans must have been grinning watching that from home. It feels like things are just clicking into place without them even trying too hard.

Earlier that same day, Philadelphia handled the Raiders pretty well, getting to 9-5. That kept them on top, but it wasnt enough to seal it completely on their own. Then Minnesota stepped in a few hours later and changed the whole picture.

The Vikings were not doing great before that, hovering way under .500, but they showed up big at ATT Stadium. They outplayed Dallas when it counted, and now the Cowboys are at 6-7-1 with only three games left. No room for slipups anymore there.

Even if Dallas wins everything from here, they cant hit 10 victories. That opens up a bunch of ways for the Eagles to take the division without sweating it.

For clinching, Philadelphia has options coming up quick. Like beating Washington this Saturday in Maryland. Or taking down the Bills next week in Buffalo. And then wrapping it up at home against Washington to end the season.

Any of those gets them to 10 wins, and Dallas is done mathematically. But theres an easier way too, if the Cowboys drop to the Chargers this Sunday, its over right then. No need for the Eagles to do anything.

The question now is not if they will get it, but just how soon. That shift happened fast.

Dallas is falling apart at the worst time possible. They had a three game streak not long ago, looking solid and keeping some pressure on Philly. But now, with two losses in a row, its like the momentum just vanished into thin air.

Their schedule ahead isnt friendly either. They host the 9-4 Chargers first. Then travel to Washington. And finish on the road at the Giants.

To dodge back to back losing seasons, something they havent had since the early 2000s, Dallas needs to sweep all three. Based on how they have been playing lately, that seems like a stretch, maybe even unlikely.

Its tough to watch a team that seemed steady a couple weeks back now scrambling for fixes as the year winds down. That dropoff stands out.

If the Eagles pull this off, and it looks like they will, its bigger than just grabbing the division again. Philadelphia would be the first in over twenty years to win back to back NFC East titles. The last ones were under Andy Reid in the early 2000s.

Plus it would look good for Nick Sirianni. Getting a division crown this year would make him the sixth coach ever to take his first five teams to the playoffs. Thats company with some real legends in the NFL.

For someone still building his career, that level of steady results says a lot, I suppose.

In that Vikings-Cowboys game, one play late really sealed it for Dallas, and it tied back to the Eagles somehow. Dak Prescott dumped it off to Malik Davis on fourth down near midfield, thinking it might keep them alive. But it fell a yard short.

Eric Wilson, who used to play for Philly, made the stop. That killed the comeback, and Minnesota just ran the clock to lock in the upset. Without meaning to, it handed Philadelphia a big lift in the standings.

Plays like that dont just end one game, they flip a whole division around.

Right now, the Eagles are in full control. Magic number at one, plenty of shots left, they are driving this thing. Whether its this weekend or a bit later, the title is right there.

Fans should just soak it in. The team set itself up nice, the rivals are slipping, and playoffs look straightforward.
